Zuma’s ilobolo drama has made headlines all over Mzansi. But now, things have taken a turn for the worst. This comes as a curse has been cast against
the former president’s fiancee – by her own father! Tensions grew and grew until Fartescue Conco (88) said enough, and drew a line in the sand. This dad is so frustrated, he is willing to give up everything – even his 24-year-old daughter, Nonkanyiso.
Said Fartescue in a message to Zuma: “Take her, she’s all yours. Do whatever you want to do with her. I’ve tried everything in my power to get my ilobolo or damages for Nonkanyiso’s pregnancy, but you obviously don’t want to engage with me.”
He further said if Zuma was a good man, he would have enquired about Nonkanyiso’s background and discussed her future with him and her biological mother, Nombuso.
He then went on to disown his daughter: “As for you Nonkanyiso, I’m releasing a curse upon your life. I’m also begging the Conco ancestors to turn their backs on you. As your father, I wanted to protect you, but you chose Zuma over me, you and Zuma disrespected me. From now onwards, you shall not call me your father because of the pains you have caused me and the family.”
All the drama started when Zuma allegedly paid ilobolo to Nonkanyiso’s mother, and not Fartescue. Fartescue told Sunday Sun he believed Nonkanyiso’s mother, Nombuso Thusi, was paid R184 000 by Zuma. He was allegedly meant to get R30 000 of the R184 000 Zuma paid, but according to a news report, he only received R10 000.
“Nombuso told me that Zuma gave her some money and with that money she bought a Quantum. I just want my share as per the tradition. I raised Nonkanyiso from birth, I sent her to the best schools including tertiary level until she was independent. Her mother couldn’t raise her as she was struggling. When Nombuso got married to her second husband, she still couldn’t take care of Nonkanyiso. She said she didn’t want Nonkanyiso to become a playground for her husband’s older sons,” fumed Fartescue.
He was previously quoted, saying: “I don’t understand how Zuma would go ahead and give the money to Nonkanyiso’s mum when he knows that the father is alive.” Fartescue and his ex-wife are allegedly not on speaking terms anymore and that is why he won’t be able to get the rest of his money without Zuma’s help.
When it comes to his relationship with Nonkanyiso, Fartescue allegedly believes someone is filling his daughter with hatred.
“I don’t understand why this chapter of her life is being taken away from me,” the distraught father was reported as saying.
Stepmum Thoko Conco (72) said she was deeply hurt by Nonkanyiso and her mother.
“Nombuso cheated with my husband. When she fell pregnant, I took her into my home as I didn’t want the baby to suffer. Even at the hospital, I’m the one who helped Nombuso to deliver the baby. At that time, I was working as a nurse. But once the baby was born, Nombuso deserted the baby. We never complained, but raised Nonkanyiso until she was independent. But today, Nonkanyiso treats us like dirt. She’ll not speak to us and blocked our numbers,” said Thoko, adding that she wanted to close this chapter and move on.
When Nombuso was contacted, she said: “Tell Fartescue I said ‘thank you’.” Nonkanyiso picked up the phone, listened to the questions and then hung up.
Zuma’s brother, Joseph Zuma, who acts as his spokesperson, said: “I tried speaking to him and he promised to sort this out. I’m also surprised that Fartescue hasn’t received anything.”
Nonkanyiso gave birth to Zuma’s 23rd known child earlier this year at Busamed Private Hospital in Hillcrest, KZN.
