Trevor Noah recently received backlash for keeping mum about the recent riots and looting in KZN and Gauteng.

This came after he posted a clip promoting his event.

“San Francisco, we’ve added a second show at the Chase Centre! On 10 December it’s completely sold out! #Mindblown but you can get tickets for 11 December show right now at TrevorNoah.com using the code “HereWeGo” (link in bio) Don’t wait, presale ends tomorrow! #BackToAbnormalTour,” he captioned the promo.

But his followers, mainly South Africans, were not happy as they felt he should have used his international platform to raise awareness on the #FreeZuma riots and looting.

Amydups wrote: “Your lack of speaking out on what is happening in SA is deafening. You clearly only love your homeland when it suits you. Your country is burning and you are interested in ticket sales? Mxm. Keep them tickets Trevor, and maybe chirp up that you’re proud to be South African. Thanks, bye.”

Ruhita said: “I’m so disappointed in you. You have an international platform and have not posted a thing about what’s going on at home in South Africa. I can’t help but wonder if you are a Zuma supporter and in support of all the looting and violence. Speak out or don’t consider yourself a South African.”

Tee Dlamini said: “Have you seen what’s happening here back at home? Echo our cries.”

Shivan Singh wrote: “I am mind-blown by your lack of exposure on what’s going on back home. You sold out.”

Another Instagram user Melanie wrote: “Hey Trevor, can you please utilise your platform to address what is happening in your home country? Please use your influence to mobilise aid, help and support. You have never shied away from politics. SA needs help.”

Shakti around the world said: “Your homeland needs your voice. We need to evoke ubuntu and stand strong together. Spread awareness for international aid. Our country is bleeding, our homeland is burning.”

But no amount of backlash moved the comedian as he did not respond to any of his disgruntled followers.
