THEY are husband and wife in a popular telenovela. But last week, Mpumelelo Bhulose and Leleti Khumalo . . . had an off-camera showdown worthy of an Oscar! This is the gossip doing the rounds in Rumoursville.

Grapevine Productions publicity manager Nilesh Singh said: “It’s not correct that the perceived argument was the reason for Bhulose’s termination. His services were terminated for other reasons.”

According to insiders, the stars of e.tv drama, Imbewu: The Seed, had an off-screen altercation that resembled a domestic violence scene. And sources insisted the face-off was “five-to” to being a fist fight.

An informant said the on-screen spouses, who are rumoured to have argued like an old bitter couple after the cameras had stopped rolling, raised their differences to new heights last week.

Said the mole: “Things got so bad that the cops had to be called to the set to calm the situation. The drama happened in the boardroom during a meeting of the directors and Mpumelelo.”

The second source said the two were separated by other people as they were about to moer each other. The source told the SunTeam that Mpumelelo had issues with taking instructions from Leleti. This was because he regarded her as his equal, not his boss!

Insisted the source: “Remember, Leleti is one of the executive producers and, therefore, his boss.”

According to the third source, the altercation began when Mpumelelo allegedly insulted Leleti.

“He said, ‘Ngeke ngidlale wena, uyisikebereshe sikaMbongeni Ngema (I refuse to be bossed around by Mbongeni Ngema’s whore)’,” referring to Leleti’s ex-husband.

The source said those words angered Leleti so much, she wanted to beat him up.

“When they were prevented from getting physical, Leleti started crying uncontrollably. It was bad. Police had to be called in, as Mpumelelo was also angry,” the source said.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial police spokesperson Thulani Zwane confirmed that Umbumbulu officers were called in to attend to the matter. He said no case was opened and no one was arrested.

When called for comment, Leleti pretended to be someone else, saying we should call the office landline.

She also never responded to our WhatsApp messages. When called for his account, Mpumelelo said: “I’ll not comment on this matter.”
