Kelly Khumalo has called out the South African Music Awards (Samas) and asked them to respect the hard work and effort she puts into her projects.
The nominees for the 27th edition were announced on Wednesday and Khumalo’s album received a nod for Best Afro Pop Album. She tweeted that the awards organisation should remove her work out of any category she was nominated for, asking for her effort to be respected.
When the nominees were announced, Limpopo sensation Makhadzi started to trend as she was not nominated in the categories people were expecting her to be in.
This is not the first time an artist has complained about the nomination process. Cassper Nyovest boycotted the awards in 2018 calling them “trash”.
The 2020 awards also snubbed Master KG’s anthem which went global and went on to receive international awards.
