The popular duo of DJ Fresh and Euphonik have been pulled off air by music station 947 following allegations of sexual assault.

The pair reached an agreement with Primedia Broadcasting, owners of 947 that they would step down from their roles with immediate effect after rape cases were opened against them.

Geraint Crwys-Williams, acting CEO of Primedia Broadcasting, said the station takes the allegations seriously.

“947 and Primedia Broadcasting have engaged with DJ Fresh (Thato Sikwane) and Euphonik (Themba Nkosi) regarding the alleged sexual assault charges levelled against them. We take these matters extremely seriously and apply a rigorous, systematic internal process to assess them. Primedia Broadcasting, DJ Fresh and Euphonik have reached a mutual decision for both DJs to come off air in order to focus on addressing this matter,” Crwys-Williams said in a statement.

Earlier this week, the woman took to Twitter, accusing the duo of drugging and raping her in 2011.

“@DJFreshSA & @euphonik will you ever acknowledge drunking me & further raping me?” read the tweet sent on January 11.

“I was completed drugged I don’t whether you BOTH raped me or 1 of you did & you later laughed about it the next morning saying we (me & 3 girls) were so drunk we kept blacking out.

On DJ Fresh’s Twitter feed some social media users say they would like for a court to decide their fate, while others accuse the woman of lying.

Gauteng police has confirmed that case was opened against the two well-known radio personalities earlier this week. A Twitter user accused the pair of allegedly drugging and raping her in 2011.

However DJ Fresh has taken to Twitter in response saying:

“In the light of the serious allegations levelled against we’ve decided to step away from all public engagements until such time that this matter has been resolved and the law has taken its course,” said DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik, in response to the allegations of rape.

Both DJ Fresh (Thato Sikwane) and Euphonik (Themba Nkosi) will no longer feature on the line-up on 94.7 or KFM.
