Media personality Katlego Maboe was thrust into the limelight when a video of him confessing to cheating on his wife Monique Muller went viral. Apart from his cheating scandal and the fact that he appears on OUTsurance adverts and presents The Expresso Morning Show, little is known about him.
Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Katlego Maboe:
Katlego Maboe’s full name is Katlego Moswane Maboe. He was born on 29th October 1986 in Ikageng township near Potchefstroom. His son’s name is Phoenix Maboe and he was born sometime in 2018.
Katlego is a trilinguist. This means he is fluent in Afrikaans, English and Setswana.
He has a Bachelor of Commerce in Chartered Accounting from North-West University (NWU).
At one time Maboe was part of an acapella group by the name Flip a Coin. He joined the group whilst he was a student at NWU. He was Flip a Coin’s beatboxer and one of its leading vocalists. The group recorded and released three projects.
In 2009 he made his first television appearance on the lifestyle magazine programme known as DEKAT. He presented the programme in Afrikaans.
His next gig was as a co-presenter on 50/50 which was a lifestyle magazine programme on SABC 2. He later joined The Expresso Breakfast Show on SABC 3.
He has made other television appearances which include hosting the 2017 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) with Thando Thabethe as his co-host. He also hosted Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (Afrikaans Language, and Culture Association or ATKV) Mediaveertjies (Media Feathers). In 2018 he was roped in as host of Tropika Island of Treasure. Katlego also hosted the Huisgenoot Tempo Toekennings and season two of Strictly Come Dancing.
As a result of his work as a presenter, Katlego Maboe has a number of awards under his belt. He has won back to back Presenter of the Year SAFTA awards in 2015 and 2016 respectively. In 2014 YOU named him the Most Stylish Male Celebrity in South Africa at the YOU Spectacular Awards.
