Cellphone nearly ends #IdolsSA judge Somizi and his husband Mohale Motaung's fresh marriage

Somizi Mhlongo felt the need to explain how too much cellphone time has had a negative impact on his relationship with husband Mohale Motaung.

So many relationships are affected by partners not being present because they constantly have their phones in their hands.

The Idols SA judge released a lengthy clip in which he opened up about the negative effects cellphons have on his and many other people’s relationships.

Somizi, like many others, cannot deal with his man constantly sitting on his phone and not being present even though he is right there next to him.

“It’s not the phone’s problem. It is the person who is using the phone. So, we are not blaming the phone, the phone doesn’t pick itself up.”

Admitting that he himself was sometimes guilty of doing this, Somizi felt the need to address the issue with his husband.

“It’s not even about me feeling neglected. I find it also to be too self-serving. If you are not on Instagram, or Twitter, or Facebook, you are taking pictures, you are taking selfies. I feel like, yoh, sometimes I wish to be touched like that phone.”

Somizi feels that all couples need to sit down, set boundaries and tackle this issue as it is ruining relationships.

“You need to sit down and set rules that are suitable for both of you. You need to come up with the 'dos' and 'don’ts' that work in your relationship.”

This is a 21st-century relationship issue that shouldn’t possess the power that it does. Couples need to prioritise quality time and be present.
