AFTER many years of secretly dating, Isibaya actress Nomzamo Mbatha, and model boyfriend, Maps Maponyane, have split. It is alleged that the son of former Kaizer Chiefs player, Marks Maponyane, is said to be in a fling with a well-known Blogger from Cape Town, Nadia Jaftha, who was also a guest at his birthday celebration early this year.
NOT TOGETHER ANYMORE
The rumour caught fire when an online publication recently posted a tweet from a lady who claimed she spotted Maps and Nadia in the same space; however the tweet was from four months ago. Nomzamo brushed off the rumour by tweeting to Maps, “Baya sisukele. UGrand Mfethu?” Loosely translated, this means, “They are on our case. Are you okay?” Maps responded with a laughing emoji and said he’s okay and that it will be okay. Nomzamo later shared an Instagram story at a dinner with Maps in the frame of her video. Many followers thought the pair was just brushing things under the carpet.
Christine Bekker, who is Maps’ manager, was quoted in an online publication saying, “Maps is a good guy and would never do that. It is 100 percent not true. It’s damaging to his reputation.”
Both Nomzamo and Maps did not answer their phones when contacted by Move!.
The pair had been rumoured to be dating since 2015 but they both kept it hush-hush and constantly referred to each other as ‘buddy’ on social media. In a radio interview in 2016, Maps confirmed the two are dating but could not confirm that they would one day walk down the aisle.
“We have a super supportive relationship where we are both hustling, pushing and setting things up. We are literally best friends and people think we are joking about this ‘buddy’ thing but we literally call each other buddy all the time and are best friends,” he said.
On the show, Maps also said it helps that they are both in the same industry and have the same drive. In an interview on SABC2’s Motswako, Nomzamo also spoke about her relationship, saying she was very happy and grateful to have a partner who is very supportive.
The actress, who’s younger brother is also an actor, said being busy means she has no social life and time for relationships and friendships. Therefore, she is grateful for a partner who understands the baggage her job comes with.
In March, Maps turned 28 and his girlfriend saw it fit to throw him a mother of all celebrations at the extravagant Val de Vie Estate in Cape Town. The two looked stunning and exceptionally happy during their weekend-long event. Part of the itinerary included guests being spoilt to a performance by acapella group, Korus ZA, a golfing experience, spa treatments and wine tasting.
Nomzamo made her debut on TV as Thandeka on Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya acting alongside Sdumo Mtshali in 2013, where she still stars. She has done many presenting jobs, including co-hosting the BET Awards in Los Angeles last year. The media personality is also an ambassador for sportswear brand Puma and Audi South Africa.
The 27-year-old is also the face of Neutrogena and a hair advocate for L’Oreal Paris. Besides being a model, Maps is a presenter and an actor. In his movie, Tell Me Sweet Something, Maps acted alongside his sweetheart Nomzamo as a couple. He is also an ambassador for Samsung and Entrepreneur Investec.
After years of trying to complete her degree, Nomzamo finally graduated at the University of Cape Town and is now a qualified accountant.
In a radio interview speaking about her graduation, Nomzamo said, “For the past five years, it was so hard for me because there was this thing that reminded me that I had dropped out of my studies and had a certain incompletion. Despite all the things that I was achieving, it just wouldn’t go away.”
The star also wore a very iconic dress that bore pictures of all the people she had lost in her life, including her father and younger sister. She also had contact details of the helpline, The South African Depression and Anxiety Group, and this is because of her late sister Carla, who suffered from depression.
