The 30-year-old co-owner of Buns Out Burgers was slapped with a notice to appear before the court when the date is finalized.
A police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said the incident happened during a roadblock operation on the N1-1 and the KM80 Road in May.
"This was one of our many operations during the national lockdown.
"He was charged with exceeding the speed limit of the road traffic sign."
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the matter, saying Maps was released on a notice to appear in court.
"A 30-year old man was arrested and given a notice to appear in court and released. I'll indicate a court date once I have it."
