Actor Muzi Mthabela is calling time on his stint at ‘Isibaya’, where he has played the role of Duma Ngema for seven years.
Muzi Mthabela, who plays the role of Duma Ngema in Isibaya, is the latest actor to leave the popular Mzansi Magic soapie to seek greener pastures.
Mthabela follows in the footsteps of veteran actor Menzi Ngubane and Jessica Nkosi, who have joined The Queen, which is also on Mzansi Magic.
Nomzamo Mbatha was the first high-profile actor to leave the soapie in recent times.
Mthabela has been with Isibaya for seven years. Speculation is rife on social media that he might be joining Imbewu: The Seed where he will play a leading role.
For all these years, viewers have watched Duma’s character grow from being a hitman (inkabi) for the Ndlovus to becoming a powerful and respected man in the valley as the regent to the Ngubane chieftaincy.
The actor will be remembered for his ability to speak to people and his leadership.
Desiree Markgraaff of Bomb Productions, the creators of Isibaya, said about Mthabela’s departure: “Muzi’s leadership skills, passion and professionalism is impeccable. He is a respectful and loving colleague to everyone that he works with. Our relationship with Muzi doesn’t end now that he is leaving Isibaya. Muzi is and will always be a member of the Bomb Productions family.”
Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Nomsa Philiso, said: “Over the years, Isibaya has continued to acquire excellent talent, which portrays their characters very well, just as Muzi Mthabela has done with his character Duma.
“Mzansi Magic is supportive of the writers and producers of each show to give the best local content that our viewers have come to love. Mzansi Magic is excited for Muzi Mthabela on his new journey in a leading role in another production and wish him all of the best in his new endeavours.”
Mthabela, the former model, is not just an actor but also a production editor.
He has edited a number of shows such as Bone of My Bones, Zola 7, Jacob’s Cross, Usindiso, City Ses’la and Skwizas.
