Ever since the twins Viggy and Virginia Qwabe came into the picture, by making their first appearance this past season of reality show, Idols SA they became crowd favourites.
By each outing they bagged more and more fans thanks to their talents and singing abilities as well as their versatility. Their die-hard followers were very convinced that they would come out winners at the end of the competition but things took a nasty and unexpected turn when Virginia was eliminated from the show in November 2019.
Hours after Virginia was chopped, her sister Viggy made it public that she had decided to withdraw from the competition as well.
Shortly after Viggy's announcement of her departure from the show, social media was awash with rumours that there was more to her withdrawal than what was presented on face value.
The gossip mill went into overdrive, with claims that the twins could have been bullied
However, the HOD of PR and publicity of M-Net's local entertainment channels, Philly Kubheka dismissed the speculation.
“Viggy withdrew from the competition on her own accord and her decision is fully supported by her family and the channel,” said Kubheka.
A few weeks down the road, it was reported and confirmed that the twins had turned down an invitation to be at the finale of the competition.
According to Sowetan, the twins' father and spokesperson Laurence Qwabe said the decision to reject the participation in the finale was taken by the family and fans.
He could not shed more light on the why part, thus the reasons behind the decision, but confirmed that they were not going.
“This is a decision that was taken by the family and their fans that they should not go to the finale,” he said.
Despite all the drama surrounding their departure from the Idols competition, the gods are smiling in the twins' way and they have a bright future ahead of them.
In November this year, it was confirmed to TshisaLIVE that the twins had landed a recording deal with DJ Tira's Afrotainment. There could be set up for dizzy heights in the sector.
