New Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi was celebrating her new crown when she received a disturbing screenshot
The screenshot was from a poll Metro FM conducted on social media shortly after she was crowned.
The poll, which was shared during Mo G and Bujy’s The Wkndr show, asked people to vote whether Zozibini was “stunning”, “just okay” or the “wrong choice”.
Speaking to Sowetan, Zozibini said she thought the poll was “a bit sad”.
“Beauty is subjective. You look different to different people, which is why beauty is not even a thing for me. If you say to me that ‘you are ugly’ I don’t even care.
“I’d be more affected if someone said I wasn’t smart. Then I would have been hurt. But being pretty? I don’t really care and not interested,” she told the publication.
Meanwhile, Metro FM says that the poll “was unapproved content” that was put on social media “without endorsement” from the station
“We, together with the rest of the country, celebrate women of all backgrounds and are truly proud of the new Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi.
“We sincerely apologise to her and the rest of South Africa unreservedly,” officials said in a statement.
Twitter users were less than impressed with the poll an Metro FM’s apology.
“This is the #msunery we talkn about. How did you allow such a post to appear on your timeline if you [were] not aware of it. Because it’s a black woman it must be judged by you. This is pure #msunery,” one tweep wrote.
Another added: “This is ur second attempt at an apology because the first one you got Zozibini’s name wrong… Hhayi suka just take responsibility niyekele kusijwayela kabi.”
Social media is fun but when you run a business' social media account, you need to really think about every word you post, or you might end up like Metro FM having to apologise to Zozibini Tunzi.#ZonzibiniTunzi #Twitter #socialmedia https://t.co/anwl1x9UND pic.twitter.com/4mYw3ik8u0
