LISA Marie Presley is writing an explosive book about her ex-husband Michael Jackson.
The 51-year-old singer and actress – who was married to the late King of Pop from 1994 to 1996 – has signed a book deal with Gallery Books “for between $3 million (R42m) and $4 million “for a bombshell tome” that will reveal “shocking details” about Michael.
The book is also set to talk about Lisa’s late father, Elvis Presley, with a source telling the New York Post’s Page Six that it “promises shocking revelations about Michael Jackson and a completely new understanding of Elvis”.
Speaking previously about the breakdown of her marriage to Michael, Lisa Marie said: “There was a very profound point in the marriage when he had to make a decision. Was it the drugs and the sort of vampires, or me? And he pushed me away.”
She explained that by “vampires” she meant “sycophants”.
“The one thing that correlates with Michael and with my father on this subject is that they had the luxury of creating whatever reality around them they wanted to create.”
Lisa Marie – who has also been married to Danny Keough, Nicolas Cage and Michael Lockwood – previously defended Michael against child sex abuse allegations, insisting she believed in his innocence.
She said: “I believed he didn’t do anything wrong, and that he was wrongly accused and, yes, I started falling for him. I wanted to save him. I felt that I could do it. I know that he’s not like that.”
The pair shocked the world by announcing to the world that they had married in a ceremony in the Dominican Republic in 1994. It came one year after Jackson paid $22m in an out-of- court settlement after being accused of abusing Jordan Chandler.
They’d first met in 1974, when Jackson was 16 and Presley was 6, and had struck up a friendship as adults in 1992, speaking on the phone regularly since then.
But despite their long friendship, at the time of their wedding neither the press nor public was aware that the pair even knew each other.
The wedding was kept secret for two months until Presley confirmed the union in a statement declaring: “I am very much in love with Michael, I dedicate my life to being his wife.”
Throughout their marriage the couple often gave public displays of affection – which even extended into Jackson’s music career. The video for his 1995 single You Are Not Alone – penned by R Kelly – was inexplicably filled with scenes of the couple lounging together naked. But over the years strange anecdotes have emerged about their time together and rumours that the marriage was never consummated.
An ex-employee of Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch has claimed Jackson sprayed ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley’s underwear with perfume and scattered it around his room to create the illusion of a night of passion.
The pair remained friends after they spilt and were spotted together throughout 1997 and 1998, and she travelled with him on tour and spent her birthday with him. In 2003, Lisa Marie insisted their marriage was genuine – if unorthodox.
