IT has all the right ingredients to make it the biggest wedding since TV personality Minnie Dlamini became Mrs Jones. The date for the country’s most talked about wedding is set. A few months ago, one of Mzansi’s biggest reality stars, Somizi Mhlongo (45), sent chills down the spines of his fan base when he broke the news of his engagement to his 24-year-old partner and Wits University student, Mohale Motaung.
SAVE THE DATE!
During the announcement of his engagement, Somgaga, as Somizi is affectionately known, stated that their engagement was not going to be a long one.
“I wanted to wait for the right time to tell everyone, but eish Paparazzi. I’m not a long time engager. I’m not talking about getting engaged for seven years. It must be within a year-ish,” he said at the time.
According to our source, Somizi is a man of his words because apparently the wedding date has been set. On his popular reality show, Living The Dream with Somizi, the radio presenter viewed a few mansions in Durban. Judging by his Instagram stories, it looks like he has bought the house that he had his eyes set on. And seemingly, according to the source, it will also be their wedding venue.
“The two love birds have been busy with plans for their big day and they have a date too. Apparently the wedding will be held in Durban around September this year,” says the source.
THE DRAMA BEHIND IT ALL
What’s a wedding without a few family feuds included? This wedding is no different. Our source reveals that the Motaungs are not impressed at all with the whole wedding and are planning to even boycott the ceremony.
Mohale’s younger sister, Palesa, was not pleased about the whole rendezvous and shared her thoughts on the matter. She even went as far as describing Somizi as a hypocrite because she felt as if the presenter was not practising what he preaches about how he is dating a young man yet he says he doesn’t want his daughter to start dating because she is still young.
THE LOVE BIRDS HAVE BEEN BUSY WITH PLANS FOR THEIR BIG DAY
Late last year, Mohale’s sister went ballistic on Somizi’s Instagram posts. In a picture that Somizi posted of him and her brother, she said, “I do not care, you guys don’t understand how this relationship has messed up my family. Somizi was going on ka his kid not dating (because) she is still young blah blah blah. The next thing he is busy with my brother who is the same age as his daughter. So it’s ok to destroy other kids but he must live in a perfect world!” But the comment was later deleted.
Somizi has been in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years and that is longer than his fiancé’s age.
Since Somizi went public with his relationship and engagement to his fiancé Mohale, the young man and his family have found themselves receiving a lot of scrutiny and unwanted attention from the public.
The two may be madly in love with each other but not everybody is convinced that their intention of getting married is as pure as it seems. The age gap between the two seems to be the main factor that Mohale saying ‘yes’ to Somizi has raised eyebrows. At the time going to print, Somizi hadn’t responded to our calls and text messages.
