Celebrities will try just about anything to look their best – even drawing their own blood for a beauty treatment
Yes, you read right, A-list stars are lining up to have their blood drawn and it’s not for a Twilight reboot audition.
The treatment, which was made famous by Kim Kardashian, has been dubbed the “vampire facial”.
If you hate needles and are squeamish then this is not the facial for you.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) s extracted from your blood and the “liquid gold” is then re-injected back into your skin!
The vampire facial is said to help with anti-aging as well as scar reduction when combined with microneedling.
Here’s a look at some Mzanisi stars who have tried the treatment
Zodwa is the latest star to get the bloody facial. The dancer, who is busy planning her wedding, says that the process was not painful.
“Modified vampire facial. My blood, extracted platelets & injected on my face. No pain. Blood was smeared onto my face. Rejuvenated, reversed my age, glowing, refreshed never tired,” she wrote on Instagram.
Kim tried the vampire facial for the first-time last month out of curiosity. She documented the process on her YouTube channel.
“Mom if I don’t make it, I love you. Also, your daughter is a big fat wuss,” the MTV Base presenter teased before undergoing the treatment.
Lee-Ann announced on Twitter last year that she was getting the vampire facial.
“Undergoing a Vampire facial. Just had venipuncture (my blood drawn) now sending my blood through a centrifuge to isolate the platelets… microneedling up next…” she tweeted. Now we know the secret to her beautiful skin.
Bonnie Mbuli tried the “vampire” facial in 2018. She shared step-by-step videos on her Instagram documenting the process.
“Anyone who knows me… knows that I am a liker of things. And right now I am lying on a bed… about to have a vampire facial. I am freaking out. I’ve got numbing cream on my face and I’m hoping for the best. Wish me luck. All I know is that Kim Kardashian cried, and she had her own blood plastered all over her face… It’s going to be bloody,” she said in the video.
Thankfully, Bonnie did not cry!

HOW PRP WORKS: PART 4 : Once the platelet rich plasma from my blood is injected into the skin, the platelets release powerful growth factors (chemical messengers) that activate fibroblasts located within the skin. Once these fibroblasts are activated they start to produce collagen, as well as glycoaminoglycans such as Hyaloronic acid. This regenerative process takes place over the course of 1-2 weeks, with maximum results visible after 1 month. #injectionErengMongoaneng
Jay Anstey had her first vampire facial in 2017. The actress says that the vampire facial is one of her favourite beauty treatments.
“The results are unreal, much like vampires themselves. It removes the appearance of fine lines, plumps up the skin, gives you a beautiful, natural glow and it’s even great with acne scars! It also personally helped me to relieve chronic dryness of my skin,” she wrote on Facebook.
