raumatic accident hasn’t been easy
Along with rehabilitation from her injuries, the fitness bunny has also had to deal with memory loss.
When Sbahle told us she had amnesia, some people in Mzansi thought she was exaggerating or might even have been lying.
The fitness trainer and socialite spent nearly three months in hospital after a horrific accident nearly took her life in August 2018. Sbahle’s BMW crashed in Durban after she lost control of it, and had to be rescued by the jaws of life before falling into a coma while in ICU. When she woke from the coma, the trainer claims that she could not remember many details from her recent life including some of her closest relationships.
A lot has happened in the nine months since the accident; Sbahle has returned home to her family and, rather controversially, her boyfriend at the time, Itumeleng Khune, has moved on. Despite this, the Durban-born sports fanatic still insists that she doesn’t recall many of her personal relationships but social media critics have accused her of faking amnesia so that she could leave the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
After growing tired of the criticism, Sbahle took to Instagram to set the record straight
“I never faked my amnesia or not having recollection of my past relationships. Once I gained access to my phone and social media in December, I got exposed to the true nature of it all. I had to choose me and walk away from anything and anyone that was of no good to my road to recovery,” she said.
Sbahle also used this statement as an opportunity to defend herself from another accusation; that her negligent driving had cost someone’s life on the night of her accident. This comes despite the fact that she was recently acquitted of all charges of negligent and reckless driving earlier this year.
Sbahle claimed her innocence once more when she said: “With sadness I have watched, especially today, how I am vilified, brandished a murderer of an unknown passenger in my car and faking my amnesia. At first your words stung, but I felt no pain as my truth is known by God, the legal system and those that were the first responders to an accident scene I still have no recollection of.”
You can read her full statement below, in which she even admits to not remembering that she was friends with some of Mzansi’s biggest celebrities, including Nomzamo Mbatha.
In this age of mental health awareness ppl are still bullying Sbahle because they don’t believe she has amnesia? Traumatic brain injury is a real thing & recovery can be a long, traumatic process. I’m not saying this is the case but even if she doesn’t have amnesia, ungenaphi?

Tjerr! We're truly abhorrent human beings, making fun of Sbahle's recovery is dispicable. Amnesia is no joke. My sister lost her memory back in 2003 & 17 years later we are still introducing her to people she knew plus the ocassional asking of where is so & so, who died eons ago. pic.twitter.com/3wK6LI10Yh
