On the day of South Africa’s national elections, President Cyril Ramaphosa made headlines when he went live on Instagram with Bonang, AKA and DJ Zinhle in a bid to secure votes
The mood during the 2019 South African national elections was calm for the most part, as voters flocked to stations around the country to have their say.
Politicians from every party were putting in some final minute campaigning but nobody made as much noise on social media as ANC and the president who decided to take his campaign live.
The head of state got on the phone with Bonang who affectionately dubbed him “Mr Preezy” during their call before assuring him that she would be voting for the ANC.
As much as he was encouraged by this, Ramaphosa urged Bonang to encourage all of her fans to vote in Wednesday’s elections; regardless of the party they would be backing.
Cyril had limited time during the day but he could not let the afternoon pass without taking a moment to speak to one of the ANC’s most outspoken supporters: AKA
The rapper was with “his woman” DJ Zinhle (kumnandi once you’ve gone public hey?) and the two of them confirmed that they had already voted.

One major celebrity who did not get a phone call from our president is Cassper Nyovest
Abut’ Fill Up must have checked his phone numerous times but alas, the call did not come. When many fans started making fun of him, the rapper snapped back.
South Africa’s biggest celebrities turned up for the 2019 elections in a big way (even those who didn’t get a phone call from Mr Preezy).
The likes of Jessica Nkosi, Pearl Modiadie and several more high-profile stars made their way to polling stations around the country to leave their X:
