Kelly Khumalo added further fuel to the gossip fire that surrounds her relationship with Chad Da Don when she referred to him as her “husband” in a social media post on Tuesday.
The singer took to Twitter and Instagram to wish her rapper bae happiness on his 26th birthday, when one word stood out above the rest and increased speculation about their marital status.
While it’s becoming clearer and clearer that these two are definitely dating (and it’s definitely not a publicity stunt to increase music sales), there has been plenty of speculation over whether or not the lovebirds are married.
Some reports claim they are engaged, while others suggest that they have already formalised their union and are recognised as a married couple. While neither of them has confirmed their marital status (insisting only that their love is real), Kelly’s post has raised more than a few eyebrows.
The Dance Comigo hitmaker wrote on Twitter:
“Can’t keep Calm it’s my husbands birthday 🍰, Happy Birthday my love @ChadDaDon cant wait cookify you 😋💦”
Is it possible to provide clarity while creating confusion at the same time? Because that’s exactly what this post did!
On one hand, if she says he’s her husband then there is little any of us can do to refute that. On the other hand, we are all dying to know when they married, or if they are still to marry, or if Chad has paid lobola, or if they chose to have a secret ceremony… We could go on, but Kelly appears to be enjoying the cat-and-mouse game she is playing with the media and her followers regarding their relationship.
For what it’s worth, ‘hubby’ Chad responded to the birthday message with just as much enthusiasm, and he took it a step further by suggesting that he and Kelly consider having a baby soon.
The rapper wrote back:
Both Kelly and Chad’s mentions were filled with congratulatory messages from their followers, along with a few unsavoury comments from trolls who attempted to rehash the played-out ‘Kelly Khumalo curse’ jokes.
Kelly and Chad’s romance has taken some time to convince Mzansi but it appears that they have finally won the country’s favour.
As well as this, their families appear to enjoy their relationship too. Kelly’s children are said to really like Chad’s company, while the rapper’s mother is such a staunch supporter of their love that she has even publicly defended them against criticism.
In an interview with Tshisa Live last month, Mrs Da Don (jokes – Norma Mansoor is her real name) slammed all suggestions that their relationship was a publicity stunt when she said, “ I think it’s ruthless and thoughtless for people to just label their love or what they have as a publicity stunt.
“Especially because there are children in this picture. Chad is besotted with those kids, we love those kids and they would never play with the kids’ feelings in the name of publicity.”
In that same interview Norma confirmed that the lovers were engaged and happily in love.
Do you think they are still engaged or does Kelly’s use of the word “husband” make you suspect they may have tried the knot in secret?
