Gqom singer Babes Wodumo is in hospital receiving medical treatment.
That's according to her father, Welcome Simelane, who addressed media at a briefing in Durban on Tuesday.
The family of Bongekile Simelane, known to fans as Babes Wodumo, called the briefing after a video of a man believed to be Babes' long-time boyfriend was apparently recorded live on her Instagram page during the early hours of Monday morning. In the video, a man can be seen assaulting the singer several times.
"Our daughter could not be here today she is in hospital receiving treatment," said Welcome.
He wouldn't elaborate on his daughter's treatment.
His wife, Thokozile Simelane, would not be drawn to commenting on her daughter's condition saying: "We can't say much because the matter is with the police."
Simelane also confirmed that a case was opened at Westville police station on Monday.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Brig Vishnu Naidoo said that her partner Mandla Maphumulo, better known as Mampintsha, had yet to turn himself in.
Wodumo's parents refused to answer any questions from the media and walked out after they had read the statement.
